Step-by-step removal guide

01

In any Telegram chat or channel: tap and hold on the message, then select "Report".

02

Choose "Child Abuse", "Violence", or "Illegal drugs". There is no deepfake-specific category.

03

For channels: tap the channel name, tap the three dots, then select "Report".

04

Email abuse@telegram.org directly with evidence. This is the most reliable path.

05

For NCII (non-consensual intimate imagery), email dmca@telegram.org with the subject "NCII Report".

06

If you are in the EU or UK, you can escalate via your local data protection authority.

07

If the channel has public content, you can also submit reports via @notoscam or @stopCA Telegram bots.

Why removal is difficult

Telegram is notoriously slow to respond to content moderation requests. The platform does not have an in-app DMCA system. Response times for abuse reports vary from 72 hours to weeks, and private groups are effectively invisible to enforcement. Telegram channels with tens of thousands of members distributing leaked content have historically operated for months before any action. Email-based reporting is the only reliable channel.

Let us help

Stop chasing takedowns by yourself

Unimpersonationable scans Telegram and other platforms for your face, then drafts a ready-to-file takedown notice for the matches you confirm. You stay the filer of record, and you keep a record of what was sent and when. The scan and the takedown are free. Optional monitoring re-checks on a schedule.

Frequently asked questions

Telegram deepfake removal

Is there a DMCA process for Telegram?

Telegram does not have a standard DMCA portal. Email dmca@telegram.org with a formal DMCA notice. Telegram is legally obligated to respond under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act if it has US users, which it does.

Can I report a private Telegram group for hosting deepfakes?

Only if you are a member of the group and can document the content. Email abuse@telegram.org with screenshots, group links, and a description of the violations. Telegram admin has access to all content.

What if Telegram does not respond to my report?

Escalate to your country's law enforcement. In the EU, GDPR enforcement authorities can compel platforms including Telegram to act. In the US, the FBI's IC3 (Internet Crime Complaint Center) handles cyber-based crimes including NCII.

Has Telegram ever removed deepfake content channels?

Yes, but rarely and typically only after significant public pressure or legal action. Automated enforcement does not exist on Telegram. Human review of reports is the only mechanism.
